A FRAGMENT OF THREE APSARAS

This is a fragmentary relief depicting three Apsaras displaying a serene expression. Typical stylistic characteristics of this period are the distinctive hairstyle, and the wide open eyes. The mouth has a smiling countenance, the nose is of a compact form, elongated earlobes. The sensitive carving exhibits a beautiful volume, pure lines and finely articulated facial features. The elegant coiffure comprises superbly carved closely moulded to the rolling contours of the hair .
